St. Louis, MO, Sept. 12, 2002 - Executive Vice President and General Manager Larry Pleau announced today that the club has re-signed forward Keith Tkachuk to a five-year contract.

Tkachuk, 30, tied for 12th in the NHL and ranked second on the team with 75 points (38 goals, 37 assists) last season. His 38 goals tied for seventh in the League, while leading the team and finishing eighth in the NHL with 13 power play goals. Tkachuk tied for ninth in the NHL with seven game-winning goals and led the team with 244 shots on goal. He posted 22 multiple point games, including five three point contests and scored his first playoff career hat trick on May 7 vs. Detroit.

"We are delighted to have Keith as one of the cornerstones of our franchise for years to come," said Pleau. "By signing this contract Keith has demonstrated his continued commitment to our organization and Blues fans. We are also pleased this contract is at the compensation level established by the unrestricted free agent market this summer."

The Melrose, Massachusetts native has recorded 706 career points (367 goals, 339 assists), along with 1,639 penalty minutes in 725 career NHL contests. He has scored 30-plus goals in six of his 11 NHL seasons, collecting 50-plus goals on two occasions. The 6-2, 225-pound forward, has recorded 30-plus assists in six of the last nine seasons, posting a career high 48 during the 1995-96 season.

Tkachuk currently ranks fifth among U.S. born players with 367 goals and ranks fourth in the NHL with 295 goals scored since 1994-95. He posted a career best 52 goals during the 1995-96 season, becoming the first American born player to lead the NHL in goals, while becoming just the fourth player in NHL history to record 50 goals and 200 penalty minutes in one season. Tkachuk helped the United States capture a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics this past February.

Tkachuk was originally Winnipeg's first round selection, 19th overall, in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft
