WHA soll wieder ins Leben gerufen werden München - Ab 2004 soll die frühere nordamerikanische Eishockey-Profiliga World Hockey Association (WHA) mit vorerst zwölf Klubs in Kanada und den USA den Spielbetrieb wieder aufnehmen.
Finanziert wird das Projekt von einer Gruppe kanadischer Geschäftsleute. Von 1972 bis 1979 war die WHA Konkurrent der NHL und brachte unter anderem Superstar Wayne Gretzky und die Edmonton Oilers hervor.
Ein Jahr später ist die Expansion nach Europa geplant. "Es kommen viele NHL-Spieler aus Europa. Darum sagen wir: Warum sollen wir nicht auch nach Europa gehen?", meint WHA-Geschäftsführer Tim Keighan.

NHL-Clubs gerade in Kanada kämpfen ums Überleben - die IHL ist seit einigen Jahren tot - und dann noch eine Profiliga die mit der NHL konkurrieren will, das aber höchstens mit der AHL tun wird, mit Schwerpunkt in Kanada, die schon in ihren Gründungsjahren nach Europa expandieren will... wer sein Geld allerdings unbedingt loswerden möchte kann das gerne tun.
