#16 RE:Die Helden der letzen Saison Antworten

Hier übrigens noch ne gute Zusammenfassung über Link Gaetz:

LinkExchange Member

Link Gaetz

Link Gaetz, the most lovably shameless goon in the brief history of the San Jose Sharks, racked up 326 penalty minutes in 48 games during the Sharks' inaugural 1991-1992 season. Link played defense, and wore number 23. His sole purpose as a Shark was to pick fights with opposing players, but he did manage to tally six goals and six assists to go along with a plus/minus rating of minus 27. He was also the inspiration for our terrible UCSB intramural floor hockey team: The Gaetz of Hell.

Link's career was cut short by a car accident in 1992. A team of medical professionals (including speech therapist Ricci Ryall... no joke) worked tirelessly to get him back to his old form. In no time, Ricci had him saying "I'll punch your &%*#$ teeth in, you %*@#&!" as good as ever, but he was never the same physically or mentally, and he has yet to make it back to the NHL. His low point came in 1993, when he was arrested for breaking into his old roommate's apartment, stealing his television, and urinating on his bed. Said the victim of the crime, "I came home and the television was gone and there was urine in my bed. The mark of Link."

That, sadly, is also no joke.

I initially designed this web page as a bit of a throwaway joke, but ironically it became the most popular feature of my site a few years ago when Link signed with the Miramichi Tim Horton Leafs of the Northumberland Dairies Maritime Senior AAA Hockey League in Canada. I received a flood of information from New Brunswick hockey fans, particularly Paul Ullock, a dutiful Leafs follower, and Eric Foran, an aspiring hockey enforcer who worked out with Link on occasion.

Link's time in the Northumberland league was quite tumultuous. He caused quite a stir on and off the ice, and the Leafs drew larger than usual crowds wherever they played. In his Miramichi days, Link scored a goal, was involved in several fights, bashed an opposing goalie in the head with the butt end of his stick, and was kicked out of a game after a seemingly clean check ended up sending an opposing player to the hospital. Per the league rules, fighters are automatically ejected, so Link struggled to get much ice time. While he obviously wasn't the player he used to be, reports indicated that he was skating fairly well, although his days in Miramichi are behind him as his behavior on and off the ice was too much for his coaches to handle.

He began the 1998-99 season with the Toledo Storm of the East Coast Hockey League, but only lasted a game or two before being kicked off of the team. In early January, he was arrested and jailed in Huntsville, Texas on charges of public intoxication and resisting arrest. He later resurfaced in Canada, playing (well, mostly fighting) for the Eston Ramblers of the Saskatchewan Wild Goose League. He was kicked off of the Eston club near the end of 1999, resurfacing to briefly play for a roller or semi-pro team every now and then. He has bounced around the "Ligue de Hockey Semi Pro du Québec" over the past three seasons, most recently playing for Rivière-du-Loup.

Besides his stints in San Jose and Miramichi, Link has had a strange and varied career. Born October 2, 1968, he was originally drafted by the Minnesota North Stars, whose general manager Lou Nanne once said, "in the first round we drafted Mike Modano to protect the franchise, in the second round we drafted Link to protect Mike, and in the third round we should've drafted a lawyer to protect Link." He appeared in 17 games over two seasons with the North Stars, and was then selected by the Sharks in the expansion draft. (Sharks' scout Chuck Grillo referred to Link as "one of the meanest kids living.") After his tumultuous tenure with the Sharks, the closest he's come to the NHL was a tryout at the Vancouver Canucks training camp. He began last season with the Anchorage Aces of the West Coast Hockey League, but was let go, reportedly after punching a teammate in a bar fight. Emails from Link fans, particularly Valerie Wood, as well as some half-assed web research, revealed that he has also played for the Madison Monsters of the Colonial Hockey League, the Cape Breton Oilers of the AHL (until he threw a skate at a coach), the San Francisco Spiders of the IHL, and a CoHL team in New York state. He's played ice hockey in Mexico City and with the San Antonio Iguanas, and has played roller hockey with the Sacramento River Rats of the RHI. As one fan mentioned in an email to me, "he has been kicked off of every team he has played for."
